...I talk about catching up on everything that I've been meaning to blog about for the last 8 weeks (or more).
Life here in the Hudson House has been very busy. As most of you know by now, I took a new job (well...new at IBM) in mid-May and have been trying to learn all of the ropes at work and balance my mommy-duties and new work-duties. I'll be the first to admit it has not gone as smoothly as I would have liked. Change is tough, and work (for now) is demanding because I am in a totally different area of the business. It takes a few months to get up to speed and feel comfortable doing a new job. I am about 1/2 way through my self-imposed 3 month "learning curve" period - and hopefully by the end of the summer I will be feeling much more comfortable in my own skin, both at work and at home.
But in the midst of all of this change, I continue to snap pictures and think to myself "I have GOT to blog about this" only to have the pictures sit on the camera as days, weeks, months go by. Well....that stops here. I am going to write a few entries and have them auto-post over the next week or so, while we are sunbathing on the beach and eating too many desserts and sleeping in late during our vacation.
What is that you say?? I should just post them all at once? Now that wouldn't be any fun...I know the anticipation of one of my blog updates is too much for some (ahem...or something like that). So stay tuned - more to come in the next couple of days. Until then, I'll bore you with what my new job is because so many people ask:
I am managing the Software Cross Brand Support team. My team is responsible for ensuring that all of the information in our IT systems (the many, varied, archaic, overlapping, insanely complicated IT systems) is enabled correctly and completely with all the correct pricing, part numbers, bill of material structures, etc. so that the IBM sales team can order any combination of software that IBM sells. We support all software brands which are delivered electronically or on media like CDs or DVDs, or loaded directly on all of our server platforms. The team sits globally - I have four employees in China, one in Toronto, and the US team is split between Boulder, CO and Cambridge, MA. I had the pleasure of meeting the Cambridge team last month - I was ready to move right into our Cambridge facility - great location and great views of Boston, not to mention a daycare in the building!
So as much as I've said it has been a bit more difficult of a transition than I had expected - I truly am enjoying my new job and hope that it continues to be interesting and rewarding.
Our family is like the branches on a tree. We may grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.
