Reading, Writing, 'Rithmatic

August 2nd shall be a day that lives on in infamy...at least in the mind of Connor.  It will be remembered as the day that began the next 17 years of his life sitting in a classroom. Long days of learning, feeding his young mind all the things that he will need to know and many things that will be forgotten along the way.

We also recognize it as our opportunity to repeat school - do we remember things like state history or earth science?  Ummmm....not so much. We probably have more to learn relearn than he does!

Connor was excited to head into school - he was totally ready for this new adventure.  We asked him a couple questions before school, but I think I am going to have to formalize this and put together a list of questions to ask year-after-year.  It will be fun to see how the answers change!
Interview before school
Truth be told, I was also totally ready for this day to arrive.  I have been asked several times if I shed any tears or got emotional.  I'll be completely honest, I am so excited for him that I am not the least bit sad to enter this new era of our lives.  I absolutely cannot wait to see how Connor develops, learns and grows over the next 10 months.  I truly think that God has great things planned for our little guy and this is just the first of many steps in that journey.  We are so happy to partner with Cary Christian School to expose him not only to foundational skills but also to God's amazing love and creation!

Here are the required "1st day of School pictures" from yesterday.  Both kids were happy to oblige and pose - I wonder how long that will last?  I give it two more years before we get the eye rolls and the "get this over with" smiles.  That's ok - I will make them do it anyway!

Anna is a proud sister - she is telling everyone that her big brother is in kindergarten

Drop-off was pretty quick and unceremonious - I was able to snap just a couple pictures of him at his desk and then I was off and running back to work and he was off and running on his new adventure.
Kindergarten at Cary Christian is only a 1/2 day program, so I took the afternoon off to spend it with my favorite boy.  I picked him up and we met Scott for lunch.  We peppered him with questions and  didn't get too many details about the day from him.  *Shocking*  We learned more from the short newsletter that came home in his folder.  I guess that's how it is going to be from now on.  We held our breath when we looked at his behavior chart - green on day 1.  We wonder how long that will last!

Special Lunch
After Scott went back to work I asked Connor how he wanted to spend the rest of his day.  First on his priority list was to empty his piggy bank and bring his money to the big bank.  Then he wanted to go out for ice cream.  Easy enough...$75 into the bank and 1 DQ flurry later we were done with his checklist.
Yum!  Reeces PB Cup Flurry

I guess yesterday was successful enough that he was ready to go back for more today...

A confident Kindergartener - Day Two

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

I love this post! So glad you were able to make Connor's first day special. He will do so well, and I'm sure make his teacher laugh a lot.
