Some Post-Election Thoughts

I make it a point to almost never be political on my blog or on Facebook.  I just don't see the need...

So the day after the election I am not sure why I feel like I need to say something.  Perhaps it is because I still yearn to be non-political on this highly politically charged day.

These are the thoughts that I have today:

1.  I am so incredibly thankful that our friendships are not based on political affinity.  I truly hope that our friends do not judge us whatsoever by our affiliations, just as we do not judge them.  Sometimes, with all of the cutting and hurtful words out there I begin to wonder....but at the end of the day I know that the people that truly care about us will put aside our philosophical differences and cherish the relationship instead.

And those that use harsh words without stopping to think that their friends may not be of the same mind-set (and perhaps even be offended) - I urge you to have more respect for those that have a different opinion than your own.  No one is right all of the time.  That is what makes this nation so great.

2.  No matter what the outcome of the election, we are called to respect and pray for our leaders.  That is exactly what our family will do.

Obey your leaders and accept their authority.  ~Hebrews 13:17

I urge … that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone — for kings and all those in authority. ~1 Timothy 2:1-2

3. I am incredibly proud to be part of a great nation where we can go to the polls and not be scared for our well-being or be bullied into voting for a particular individual, or have an overt fear of vote-tampering.
I believe that the United States is an amazing country with amazing people. We will continue to raise our children to love this country with all of their heart and participate in the democratic process with pride.
