I have put off sharing my 2014 Resolution until the very last possible second. As a lot of you know, but even more of you don't, I've been having pretty serious health problems for the last 11 months. My resolution for 2014 is to take my life back and take steps towards good health and happiness.
I have talked here before about my diagnosis with Ulcerative Colitis (I think??). UC is an auto-immune disease that affects my large intestine. It, in the most basic terms, causes my immune system to attack the lining of my large intestine and create ulcers.
After months of being on high doses of prednisone steriods (and going out of my mind with the side effects) I finally got to the point where I had two choices: choose to have my large intestine removed, or join a clinical trial for a chemotherapy drug that is used to treat Crohn's Disease and potentially UC. I chose the clinical trial, but after 12 weeks on that medication I was still not in remission, but suffering from dehibilitating migraines, fatigue, and hair loss. My last option is to have surgery to remove my colon.
That surgery is scheduled for Tuesday...this Tuesday, January 7th at the University of North Carolina. I have amazing doctors, surgeons, nurses and support system. Our families are rallying around us, our church friends, our pre-school friends, our CCS friends...everyone has been so wonderfully caring and concerned. We are overwhelmed and completely blessed.
What we covet the most is your prayers. This is a long process...this is just the first of two procedures I will undergo, and the recovery takes up to a year for my body to readjust to the "new normal."
Just know if you comment or respond to me (phone, text, email) there is a good chance I won't respond in the near future, but know that I appreciate your love and concern so much.
So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.
~Isaiah 28:15-17
Our family is like the branches on a tree. We may grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.
